Job Description:
We are currently advertising for an Editorial Assistant to work for one of our prestigious institutes,
Queen Mary University.
 
This is a fixed term contract for 3 months.
 
The post of Editorial Assistant sits within the Marcomms team as part of the Directorate of Marketing and Communications. Marketing and Communications at QMUL aims to help the university deliver its strategic aims, specifically in the areas of student recruitment, reputational development and internationalisation. The role is part of a Marcomms team which aims to coordinate content production across our suite of channels with a particular focus on communications which support student recruitment activities.
 
Job Purpose
To support the Directorate of Marketing and Communication’s strategic goals by providing high quality editorial support and written content for communications channels focusing primarily on student recruitment literature in print, online, and in any communications that feature the QMUL profile.
To provide editorial support to help manage the wide variety of content projects that feature the QMUL profile. This could range from graduation brochures to School brochures, web pages to social media posts.
To support the development of the QMUL brand by providing editorial work reviewing, creating, fact-checking and proofing content.
To define and maintain the QMUL style guide and edit copy in accordance with corporate identity guidelines.
 
Main Duties/Responsibilities
  • Copyedit and proofread content for various print and online publications. Must have excellent attention to detail for spelling and grammar.
  • Produce creative and inspiring copy for use across all of QMUL’s communication channels including recruitment literature and prospectuses (UG and PG), the website, social media, corporate publications and research publications.
  • Produce supporting copy for specialist and bespoke projects as required, including graduation brochures, Open Day publicity, print adverts, etc that is needed to help support QMUL’s key messages and campaigns.
  • Work with the relevant departments/institutes to make overall improvements to content supplied by them by proofreading and editing.
  • Develop QMUL’s corporate written house style and tone and make sure this is applied across all work.
  • Support the Marketing Communications Manager with any other tasks such as research, selecting photography and any other administrative duties as necessary to complete Marcomms projects.
The above list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and the jobholder may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of the role, as reasonable requested by their line manager.
 
Requirements
Qualifications 
A-levels or equivalent (Essential)
An Honours degree (BA/BSc) or equivalent (Essential)
 
Knowledge, Skills and Experience 
Excellent writing skills with the ability to create clear, concise and engaging copy for a range of audiences (Essential)
Excellent editing and proofreading skills (Essential)
Experience of presenting complex, detailed and specialist information in accessible and compelling forms (Essential)
Experience of creative writing and content production, such as marketing and recruitment copy, profiles, feature articles, corporate brochures etc (Essential)
High level of accuracy and attention to detail (Essential)
Experience of using InDesign and Photoshop (Desirable)
Experience of using Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint (Essential)
Experience of working with online communications tools and systems, including content management systems (Desirable)
Experience in a busy office, preferably in communications (Desirable)
Experience of working alongside graphic / web designers to ensure content works with design and messages are conveyed appropriately (Essential)

Pay rate £14.27 per hour plus holiday pay.
