The Company

AMS Biotechnology (AMSBIO) is recognized today as a leading company contributing to the acceleration of discovery through the provision of cutting-edge life science technology, products and services for research and development in the medical, nutrition, cosmetics and energy industries. AMSBIO is able to draw upon in-depth expertise in extracellular matrices to provide elegant solutions for studying cell motility, migration, invasion and proliferation. Widely acknowledged as an expert in cell culture, AMSBIO partners with clients in tailoring cell systems to enhance organoid and spheroid type screening outcomes from a technological and cost-effective perspective.

The aims of this Internship

The main objective will be to contribute to the marketing and business plan for a new service that is proposed as to be offered by the company. Initial outcomes will include production of marketing collateral such as webpages, brochures and presentations/video. It will also include the production of the Business Plan that will be used in phase two as the company spins-out the activities into a new company. Market Research and business strategy development will result from this part.

Activities, duties and responsibilities

AMSBIO has developed a cancer screening system that has miniaturized the platform normally employed in research environments in our industry. The intern will help develop the market positioning of a service provision that is being established in the lab. This will include multiple marketing and business developments tasks including market research, website prescence, marketing services and input into the business plan that expects to spin out the platform as a stand alone entity in 12-18 months time. The intern will be responsible for coordinating the inputs from various departments and external collaborators in order to achieve the launch and to ensure activities are synchromised and key opinion leaders are brought on board. These include senior staff in academia and industry.

Skills and Experience that will be useful for this internship - these will be used to shortlist candidates

This role will suit someone with a keen interest in developing a new technology and monetising it through the provision of a service rather than a product. Excellent numeracy skills together with an analytical approach is important. Although the technology is based around growing cancer cells and primary tumour tissue the need for a life scientist is not seen as essential. As some of the existing customers are from German speaking markets German language may be useful. An ability in exploiting social media and digital marketing to an industrial (as opposed to consumer) market place would also be considered useful.

Please note: If you are successful in being made an offer from the company for this internship, you will need to complete an Internship Agreement Letter and return this to UCL Careers before the internship starts.

Benefits and Tangible Skills the intern will gain

A successful internship will provide the right candidate with a direct view and contact with the drug discovery industry in Europe and North America. It will also help develop key skills in communication at both corporate and personal levels. The intern will have developed a Marketing strategy document and started to implement some longer term aspects by the time the period is complete.

This opportunity is part of the UCL Careers Summer Internship Scheme. Part of the wage for the successful intern is provided by Santander Universities, but the successful intern will be paid the full amount through the host company's payroll as normal.
