The Company
The New Craftsmen work with a selection of Britain’s finest craft makers to showcase the materials, skills and craft products of the British Isles. Founded in 2012, The New Craftsmen currently represents a network of over 100 makers, showcasing work in our beautiful Mayfair showroom, through our e-commerce platform and building a significant pipeline of commissions.  The Sunday Times described us as ‘a collection of the coolest crafters in the land’, and our work has been featured in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Monocle, The Financial Times, Condé Nast Traveller, Elle Deco, World of Interiors and many more.
Aims of the internship

Towork within the marketing team, splitting their time between assisting with E-commerceand PR activities.


Theintern will help with the day-to-day running and maintenance of the currentretail site as well as assist with the development of the new e-commerceplatform launching in September. They will also offer PR support to the PRManager on press activities from coordinating product loans to collating presscoverage and journalist outreach.

Activities, duties and responsibilities

PR specific project:

  • To organise and archive our press coverage creating a complete digital catalogue of well presented press

PR support

  • Maintain an up-to-date account of press coverage
  • Researching online and international publications to target
  • Assisting with press loans and stock management
  • Assisting with social media strategy and implementation

E-commerce specific project

  • Developing US shipping, doing tariff and customs research and finding new partners to work with for white glove, high value pieces

E-commerce support

  • Tidying up website, checking spelling mistakes, making sure images are optimised, copy is consistent, links are all working
  • SEO work, checking guidelines are being applied across the website, product descriptions are correct
  • Assisting with development of new platform

  • An interest in working in PR, Marketing or E-Commerce
Please note: If you are successful in being made an offer from the company for this internship, you will need to complete an Internship Agreement Letter and return this to UCL Careers before the internship starts.
Will the tasks involve special physical or sensory demands?

The tasks will involve the careful handling of our products, from hand-blown glass, to woven textiles and one-off ceramic pieces. For instance packing and wrapping for product loan pick ups, or possibly assisting on a photography shoot.

  • The internship will take place at a key moment for our e-commerce business and the intern will gain an insight into the development of the new website, gaining valuable experience & know-how in what it takes to create and build a successful e-commerce platform.

  • PR, word of mouth and social media have been the most significant drivers of our business to date. Working alongside our PR manager, the intern will gain experience in press communications, from building relationships with journalists, to creating a framework of messaging around a product, maker or concept to leverage sales and brand awareness.

  • Experience in working at a faced-pace rapidly developing start-up company

This opportunity is part of the UCL Careers Summer Internship Scheme. Part of the wage for the successful intern is provided by Santander Universities, but the successful intern will be paid the full amount through the host company's payroll as normal.
