Job title: Analytics Intern

Location: Russell Square, London WC1B 4HP
Salary: £9.75 Per hour (London Living Wage)
Duration: 6 weeks full-time either from 12th June - 21st July, or from 10th July - 18th August
Application Deadline: 2pm Monday 3rd April 2017
AlignAlytics is an analytics company who are pushing the boundaries of database and visualisation technologies. We focus on creating value through innovative applications and analytical techniques.
Our customers need help with their data and we help them by building solutions that combine back-end database expertise (SQL/NOSQL), advanced modelling (Python, R, SPSS) and modern visualisation techniques (D3.JS).
Aims of the internship
Therewould be 3 purposes:
Activities, duties and responsibilities
We have a number of projects currently in development that the intern could support. These include:
Truck breakdown analytics – we’re working with a truck manufacturer to help them build a solution out to better understand their truck breakdowns. On this project we are creating a data model that blends SQL and NOSQL (ElasticSearch), includes text analytics of truck breakdown logs and also includes an app that lets users tag data with their own findings.
Pricing – we are working with 2 customers to develop a pricing solution where we model out price recommendations and then allow users to flex them to meet their own targets.
IOT (Internet of Things) Analytics – working on a project to predict when metro station equipmenjt will break down. Project requires dashboard design and modelling work.
Skills and Experience that would be useful for this internship - applications will be shortlisted on this criteria
From a technical standpoint we use a mixture of SQL, ElasticSearch and Python for much of our data work. So expeience in any of these is a benefit.
Finally, any exposure to ETL packages such as SSIS is also helpful.
From the commercial side, it’ll also help if you have an interest in some of our analytical areas such as pricing, financial analysis, geo-mapping, IOT, or retail analytics.
Please note: If you are successful in being made an offer from the company for this internship, you will need to complete an Internship Agreement Letter and return this to UCL Careers before the internship starts.
Benefits and tangible skills/ experience the intern will gain by the end of the internship
We’d hope you would learn some great technical skills in terms of coding in languages such as Python and SQL. More importantly you would learn about how these technical skills are actually used in real use cases. This is normally a great learning experience as the data we receive from customers is normally messy and requires additional steps before we can analysie it or use it an application.
