Merck are continuing their internship programme offering exciting opportunities within their organisation, this particular internship will be a role based in their Oncology division. 

Merck is looking for ambitious graduates who are hungry to succeed. The graduate will work across the commercial and medical team so they get insights into both sides of how a business operates.

The Role

  • The successful graduate will support the department and endeavour to deliver against its cross-functional objectives.
  • Support the marketing team on the commercial strategy and implementation of key materials
  • Partner with key functional leads to efficiently and effectively deliver specific complex projects, including multichannel activities

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop exciting and engaging digital materials across a variety of channels, including emails and websites
  • Support the team in preparing and implementing brand plans
  • Working with the medical department to develop customer facing materials
  • Partner with functional leads to ensure project planning and delivery of business critical activities such as conferences and multichannel activities

Key Internal Relationships  


The candidate will work particularly closely with the oncology team.

However, the role is cross functionally focused and the successful candidate will engage with the following functional areas:

General Management, Oncology Commercial Team, Medical, Commercial Insights &

Business Excellence, Market Access (Health Economics, Government Affairs and NHS

Implementation Managers), Regulatory, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Supply Chain,

Regional & Global Oncology Business Franchise Teams

Competencies for the role

  • Project delivery - It is critical the team is able to effect change and deliver key projects on time. This role will be central to success in this area.
  • Ability to maxtrix manage in a complex environment.  The intern will work with representatives of the commercial, medical, market access and other functions, as well as with a wide variety of experience levels.  The ability to navigate this complexity is important.
  • Good emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. The role will involve interaction with a wide range of different personalities.A flexible empathetic approach will be required. 
  • Change management-new ways of working are being introduced in Merck Serono.  The graduate will need to champion change and remain well organised and committed to the new working model, while maintaining tolerance as other colleagues engage in a process of change.
